The Meeting with the Supervisory Board of the Bank Association of Slovenia

03/23/2006 / Press release

At today's meeting, the Governor of the Bank of Slovenia acquainted the representatives of the Supervisory Board of the Bank Association of Slovenia with the provisional schedule of the monetary policy measures required for adjustment to the euro area. Because of the changeover to a new system of collateralisation, a modification of the Decision on the Minimum Amount of Liquidity to Be Provided by a Bank was needed. The aforementioned changes were adopted by the Governing Board of the Bank of Slovenia at its latest meeting and they will be effective as from April 2006.
At today's meeting, the Governor of the Bank of Slovenia, Mr. Mitja Gaspari, and the Vice Governor, who is in charge of payment transactions, Mr. Darko Bohnec, also presented the requirements of the Bank of Slovenia with regard to the conduct of pricing policy to banks. Banks have to ensure more transparency of pricing policy which is stipulated in both the Payment Transactions Act and the motion of the future European Directive on Payment Service in the Internal Market. In this context, more transparency and accessibility of the data on the rates of particular payment services is needed, on whose basis consumers will be able to choose between various offers, considering the rate and quality of particular services. Banks have to put up a transparent and costumer-understood display of the rates of their services for all kinds of clients and for all credit transfers performed through all distribution channels in a visible place in their agencies and on their webpages as well, in the event this has not been provided as yet. It is recommended that banks notify clients thereof in regular statements. Lists of rates must be complete, transparent and visible, explaining which services have already been paid within transaction account maintenance. Either the Bank Association of Slovenia or the Bank of Slovenia will prepare a standardised way of display, so that consumers will be able to draw the comparison implied above in a simple way with the data for study gathered in a single place.
