Claudia Buch, Chair of the SSM Supervisory Board, on working visit to Banka Slovenije
Banka Slovenije is today hosting Claudia Buch, Chair of the Supervisory Board of the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM), on a working visit. After an introductory meeting with Governor Boštjan Vasle, she met representatives of banking supervision at Banka Slovenije, representatives of the Bank Association of Slovenia, and bank CEOs.
The participants discussed current issues, including the structure of the banking sector in Slovenia, cooperation within the SSM, and environmental and cyber risks. They also addressed regulation, and the competitiveness of the banking sector in Slovenia and across the EU.
Under Ms Buch’s guidance, an SB Strategic Retreat will be held over the next two days, hosted by Deputy-Governor Primož Dolenc.
This year the Single Supervisory Mechanism is celebrating the tenth anniversary of its establishment in 2014 in response to the financial crisis and later the sovereign debt crisis, which confirmed the need for centralised banking supervision in Europe to restore confidence in the banking sector and to increase the resilience of the financial system within the monetary union. Its aims are to ensure the safety and soundness of the European banking system, to increase financial integration and stability, and to ensure consistent supervision.
