Awards for seven master's and one doctoral dissertations
This year once again Banka Slovenije has awarded prizes for the best dissertations by students in the field of finance. Out of twenty-five dissertations applying, the selection committee chose seven best master’s and one best doctoral dissertations.
Prizes of EUR 1,500 for master’s dissertations were presented to Nik Gabrovšek, Ajda Kovač, Luka Markovič, Domen Pavlič, Anja Puc, Kristina Sajovic and Marina Tomić, and prize of EUR 3,000 for doctoral dissertation was presented to Ema Kelin.
Banka Slovenije has been awarding prizes since 1992 with objective to promote research work. Including this year’s winners, more than 300 students have won prizes so far.
The latest winners were congratulated by the Governor of Banka Slovenije, Boštjan Vasle, who also took the opportunity to thank them for their contribution to economic knowledge: "The awards for the best master's and doctoral theses represent our commitment to support and promote innovation and research in the fields of banking, insurance, finance and financial law. We award them to those who have demonstrated excellence and outstanding contribution to the theory and practice of economics, who are pushing the boundaries of knowledge and contributing to economic development."
Recipients of this year’s prizes:
Nik Gabrovšek, for the dissertation Analysis of the wage-price pass-through in the Euro area, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Thomas Zörner, of the Vienna University of Economics and Business.
Ajda Kovač, for the dissertation The link between financial stability, macroprudential policy and heterogeneity in the Euro area under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Guido Schäfer, of the Vienna University of Economics and Business.
Luka Markovič, for the dissertation Dynamic effects of unconventional monetary policy, under the supervision of Prof. Dr Guido Schäfer, of the Vienna University of Economics and Business.
Domen Pavlič, for the dissertation Determinants of asset returns in times of increased uncertainty, under the supervision of Prof. Dr Igor Lončarski, of the School of Economics and Business of the University of Ljubljana.
Anja Puc, for the dissertation Macroeconomic impacts of monetary and fiscal policy in the Euro area during the Covid-19 pandemic – a SVAR approach, under the supervision of Prof. Dr Vasja Rant, of the School of Economics and Business of the University of Ljubljana.
Kristina Sajovic, for the dissertation Bank board members' financial risks: civil liability, D&O insurance, and compensation schemes, under the supervision of Prof. Dr Mark Simoneti, of the Faculty of Law of the University of Ljubljana.
Marina Tomić, for the dissertation An empirical analysis of daily migration in Slovenia, under the supervision of Prof. Dr Sašo Polanc, of the School of Economics and Business of the University of Ljubljana.
Ema Kelin, for the dissertation Production, consumption and transfers by educational level, under the supervision of Prof. Dr Jože Sambt, of the School of Economics and Business of the University of Ljubljana.
