Governor's statement on the margins of the Annual Meetings of the IMF and the World Bank Group
The governor Boštjan Vasle is attending the Annual Meetings of the IMF and the World Bank Group, which are taking place in Washington until 16 October 2022. In his short statement (available in Slovene only) on the margins of the meetings he highlighted main topics of the meetings, he commented on the response to changed economic situation so far and stressed the importance of common effort to curb the inflation.
In the role of the Governor of the IMF's Board of Governors, Governor Vasle is attending the meeting of the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC), which meets twice a year during every Spring Meetings and autumn Annual Meetings of the IMF and the World Bank. The IMFC will discuss current developments in global economy and international financial markets, the IMF's support in providing financial assistance to member states, in light of the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic and Russia's aggression against Ukraine, outlook and possible policy responses. The IMF’s Global Policy Agenda will also be presented.
The delegation of Banka Slovenije will attend a number of bilateral meetings with representatives of the IMF. The meetings will be held with the representatives of the European Department, namely its director Alfred Kammer and the new IMF’s Mission Chief for Slovenia Donal McGettigan, as well as with the representatives of the Monetary and Capital Markets Department. The delegation will also attend the meeting of the Central and Eastern European (CEE) IMF Constituency, separately with Mr. Daniel Palotai, Executive Director of the Constituency, and the meeting of the WB Constituency, where Slovenia is a member. Governor Vasle will also participate in the discussion with central bank governors and finance ministers from Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe on the outlook and policy challenges for Europe.
