Opening of the exhibition room Mala galerija of the Bank of Slovenia

04/05/2019 / Press release

Yesterday the Bank of Slovenia opened its newly renovated Little Gallery, and also it first exhibition, organised in conjunction with the University of Ljubljana for students of photography at the university’s Academy of Fine Art and Design.

Guests heard speeches by Boštjan Vasle, Governor of the Bank of Slovenia, and Prof Igor Papič, dean of the University of Ljubljana. They both emphasised the good relationship and fruitful cooperation between the two institutions. Mr Vasle spoke of the Bank of Slovenia’s long tradition of working with key cultural institutions in Slovenia. Back in the middle of the 20th century, it set aside part of its premises in the very heart of the city to be an exhibition space, which was named the Little Gallery in 1952. Following the renovation, the Bank of Slovenia is returning the space to its original use. The dean highlighted the notable 100th anniversary of the university, which will be marked in part by a number of arts projects held at the Bank of Slovenia’s Little Gallery.

In this year alone the Little Gallery will host seven exhibitions, featuring artists and designers from various faculties and academies at the University of Ljubljana.

The creators of the first exhibition are students of photography at the university’s Academy of Fine Arts and Design. The exhibition is entitled Prekleti delež, or The Devil’s Share. It will be open between 11 am and 7 pm, Tuesdays to Saturdays until 12 May.

The Little Gallery exhibition space will feature young creatives working in fine art, sculpture, photography, design, textiles, architecture and landscaping, music, computer tech and acting. A range of activities such as lectures, roundtables, workshops, literary and music evenings, and auctions will be held alongside the exhibitions themselves.
